At PoCo West Animal Hospital, we understand the bond between a pet and the family who loves them. For over 25 years, our team in Port Coquitlam has provided thoughtful, personalized veterinary care for dogs and cats at every stage of life. We take time to listen, to explain, and to make every visit as comfortable as possible for your companion and for you. Whether your pet is coming in for a routine checkup or needs more involved support, we approach every case with the same standard of care.

Our Story

PoCo West Animal Hospital has been part of the Port Coquitlam community for over 25 years. During that time, we have built relationships with families across the Tri-Cities area, including Coquitlam and Port Moody, caring for their dogs and cats through puppyhood, kittenhood, adulthood, and into their senior years. Our clinic is led by Dr. Saeid Arefi, DVM, whose commitment to veterinary medicine and to this community forms the foundation of everything we do. We are proud to be a trusted local resource for pet health in Port Coquitlam.

Compassionate, Fear-Free Care

We believe that a calm, positive veterinary visit makes a real difference. Pets who experience low-stress visits are easier to examine thoroughly, more cooperative over time, and less likely to develop the kind of veterinary anxiety that leads owners to delay important care. Our team uses gentle handling techniques, moves at each pet’s pace, and takes the time to build trust. We offer split visits and happy visits for pets who benefit from a more gradual approach. Our goal is for your dog or cat to walk out of every appointment in the same comfortable state they arrived.

Our Veterinary Team

Our team brings years of veterinary experience and a genuine love for animals to every appointment. Dr. Arefi, DVM, leads a dedicated group of veterinary assistants and support staff who are committed to the wellbeing of every patient. We believe that exceptional veterinary care happens when clinical knowledge and compassion work together, and we hold that standard across every role in our clinic. Modern Facilities and Veterinary Care

Our clinic is equipped with up-to-date diagnostic and surgical equipment to support a wide range of veterinary services for dogs and cats. In-house bloodwork, digital X-ray, ultrasound, and a full surgical suite allow our team to address most of your pet’s health needs in one location. Modern facilities mean fewer referrals for routine concerns, faster answers on test day, and a more seamless experience for your family. We continually invest in the tools that allow us to provide a higher standard of care in Port Coquitlam.

Note: renamed from ‘Modern Diagnostics & Treatment’ — ‘Treatment’ is a flagged term per VSA Rule 3.

Personalized Wellness Plans

Every pet is different, and the right veterinary care should reflect that. Our wellness plans are built around your companion’s life stage, breed, lifestyle, and health history, not a generic annual checklist. A puppy starting their first vaccine series has different needs than a senior dog managing joint changes, and we approach each situation accordingly. From your first visit, we work with you to build a preventive care plan that fits your pet’s specific needs and your schedule. We serve pets seven days a week, including evenings Monday through Friday, to make consistent preventive care as practical as possible.

Our Mission

Our mission is to be here for pets and their families with kindness, care, and consistent support. From preventive wellness visits to more involved veterinary services, we aim to provide the kind of care that helps dogs and cats in Port Coquitlam live healthier, more comfortable lives. We measure our success not by the number of appointments we schedule but by the long-term health outcomes of the pets in our care and the confidence of the families who trust us with them.

Our Values

Everything we do at PoCo West Animal Hospital is shaped by four values: compassion, partnership, respect, and dedication. Compassion means that every pet in our care is handled gently and with patience, regardless of how cooperative or anxious they may be on a given day. Partnership means we work with you, not for you, explaining our findings and recommendations clearly and supporting your right to make informed decisions about your pet’s health. Respect means every family is treated with dignity, and every pet is given the attention they deserve. Dedication means we show up, every day of the week, committed to doing this work well.
