Our pet wellness program at PoCo West Animal Hospital in Port Coquitlam brings together the preventive care your dog or cat needs at each stage of life into a structured, easy-to-follow plan. Rather than tracking individual services separately, our wellness plans bundle the most important preventive care for your pet’s current life stage. Whether you have a new puppy, a curious kitten, a healthy adult pet, or a senior companion, we have a plan that fits their needs and your schedule. We serve dogs and cats throughout Port Coquitlam, Coquitlam, and Port Moody.
The first year of a puppy's life involves more veterinary visits than any other period, and for good reason. Vaccines must be spaced correctly, parasite management requires scheduled follow-up, and socialization guidance is most effective when started early. Our puppy wellness plan covers the core vaccine series (DHPP and rabies), leptospirosis and Bordetella for Port Coquitlam's outdoor environment, deworming at appropriate intervals, flea and tick prevention, microchip placement, and nutritional guidance for your puppy's breed size. We build the schedule around your puppy's specific needs at your first visit.
Kittens require a specific vaccine series, parasite management protocol, and nutritional plan that differs from puppies. Our kitten wellness plan covers the FVRCP core vaccine series, Feline Leukemia Virus (FeLV) vaccination, FeLV and FIV testing, deworming, flea prevention, microchip placement, and spay or neuter timing guidance. We also provide early socialization and carrier training advice to build the foundation for low-stress veterinary visits throughout your cat's life. FeLV testing is included at intake and recommended at follow-up.
Adult dogs and cats aged approximately 1 to 7 years benefit from annual wellness visits that maintain their health baseline and catch any early changes before they become more significant. Our adult wellness plan includes a full physical examination, vaccine review and update, annual heartworm and tick risk review, fecal parasite screening, dental health assessment, weight and body condition evaluation, and a nutritional review. Consistent annual care significantly reduces the chance that a manageable condition goes undetected until it requires more significant intervention.
Senior pets, generally dogs and cats aged 7 years and older (with giant breeds often considered senior from age 5), benefit from biannual wellness visits and more comprehensive screening. Our senior wellness plan includes everything in the adult plan plus a geriatric bloodwork panel covering organ function, thyroid levels, and metabolic health, a urine assessment, blood pressure evaluation, a detailed joint and mobility assessment, and a dietary review focused on supporting healthy aging. Early identification of kidney changes, endocrine imbalances, and arthritis allows for management that maintains quality of life significantly longer.
A puppy wellness visit includes a full physical examination, a vaccine appropriate for their age and schedule, a discussion of parasite prevention and deworming, a nutritional review, and guidance on socialization, house training, and dental care habits. We also cover what signs to watch for during the weeks following vaccination. We take time to answer every question you bring to the visit.
Most dogs and cats are considered senior at approximately 7 years of age. Giant breeds age faster and may be considered senior from age 5. The senior life stage brings a higher risk for organ changes, endocrine imbalances, joint conditions, and dental disease, which is why more frequent monitoring is recommended. We will let you know when your pet’s wellness plan should transition to senior care.
Wellness plans organize your pet’s preventive care into a coordinated schedule that ensures nothing is missed. They are designed around your pet’s life stage rather than a generic yearly reminder. This is particularly valuable in the first year of life, when vaccine timing and parasite management require multiple, correctly spaced visits.
Yes. Annual wellness visits for indoor cats are recommended regardless of outdoor exposure. Regular physical examinations catch changes in weight, dental health, organ function, and behavior that owners often attribute to normal aging. Dental disease, kidney changes, and hyperthyroidism are among the most common findings in indoor cats who appear otherwise healthy.
